Speaking of Water

The swimming season is winding down but there is another aspect of water we can discuss.  Using rainwater for watering gardens and topping off pools.  I remember being a little kid on my grandparent’s farm and checking out the big wooden barrel with a wooden lid situated on the corner of the house.  Inside was rainwater from the gutters on the roof.  Nothing was wasted including the free water from the sky to be used in the heat of summer to water the garden.  Today’s technology has named the process my grandparents practiced “rainwater harvesting” and have called it part of the “green” movement.  This very satisfying technique can be as simple as the barrel or more complex underground storage tanks, but however you do it you can save money in the cost of water.  Food for thought for next season.
