As you shop around for your swimming pool keep in mind that in addition to getting a quality pool the method of installation, in particular the backfill material, is of utmost importance.
There is never an instance when backfill material is not needed. Using sand, stone dust or the dirt from the dug hole is never the correct backfill material.
The best material is jagged gravel, it locks together and allows for drainage. Gravel will not wash away leaving your pool without the very necessary support of the backfill. Sand, stone dust and dirt will wash away with ground water and you end up with hollow spots under your pool floor, which in turn can cause cracks.
